Local IRA Priority Climate Action Plans

This research report offers valuable insights and practical examples that can empower communities to effectively influence climate policies that directly impact their lives and futures.

OVERVIEW OF RESEARCH

In response to a nationwide call from the Environmental Protection Agency, and as part of the process of securing federal funding through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), states, Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), Tribes, and territories have submitted Priority Climate Action Plans (PCAPs). Central to these plans is the inclusion of public participation and community engagement strategies, reflecting a commitment to involving those most affected by climate policies in the decision-making process. Recognizing the critical role that public engagement plays in creating effective and equitable climate policies, SEAP and the National Conference on Citizenship (NCOC) have partnered to assess and elevate the best practices observed in these plans. Through this joint project, we aim to highlight successful approaches, encourage transparency, and foster deeper community involvement in addressing the urgent climate challenges facing our nation.
